Obituary for Billy Thurmond Davis

Billy Thurmond “BT” Davis, 80, husband of Clara Jean Willingham Davis, died Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Saluda, December 26, 1937, he was a son of the late James E. Davis, Sr. and Lucille Gillian Davis. He was a US Navy Veteran where he traveled the world and retired from the South Carolina National Guard. He was employed with Monsanto of Greenwood for over 33 years and later retired from Self Regional Medical Center after 19 years of hospital security.

A member of West Side Baptist Church, Mr. Davis was also a Mason and member of Mathews Masonic Lodge # 358 AFM. He enjoyed fishing, camping and he faithfully and lovingly cared for his wife and deceased daughter, Darlene, and son, Mark, who both died of Cystic-Fibrosis. He will be remembered for patience, love, kindness and sweet spirit in caring for others.

In addition to his parents and his children, Mark Timothy Davis and Wanda Darlene Davis, he was predeceased by a brother, James E. “Jimmy” Davis, Jr.

Surviving in addition to his wife of Wesley Commons are: sister-in-law, Edith Evans Davis of Abbeville, her family, Sharon Davis-Norryce (Michael) of Abbeville (Evan, Ean, Elyse and Isabella) and Shane Wesley Davis of Dues West; sister-in-law, Harriet Willingham Lathren (Louis) of Greenwood; her family Stan Lathren (Kathy) of Prosperity; brother-in-law, Dendy C. Willingham, Sr. (Patricia) of Newberry, his family, Dendy C. Willingham, Jr. (Darlene) of Chapin, William Earl “Bubba” Willingham of Newberry and Samuel Ray Willingham of Newberry; sister-in-law, Rita Willingham Douglass (Andrew) of Greenwood.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hal Lane and William Earl Willingham officiating.

Burial with Military Honors will be in Red Bank Baptist Church Cemetery in Saluda.

Pallbearers will be Ean Guy, Evan Guy, William Earl Willingham, Dendy Willingham, Jr., Andrew Douglass and Virgil Rushton.

Honorary escort will be current and retired Security Staff and Self Regional Medical Center.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 Wednesday afternoon.
