Obituary for Dennis Ray Davenport

Dennis Ray Davenport, 70, resident of 225 Headwater Drive, husband of Sandra Corley Davenport, died Tuesday January 9, 2018 at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Greenwood May 15, 1947, he was a son of the late H. Ray and Mildred Lagrone Davenport. He was a 1965 graduate of Greenwood High School, attended Lander College and was a pharmacy graduate from the Medical University of SC in 1970. While at MUSC he served as class president, president of the KAPPA PSI fraternity and graduated as most outstanding student.

Dennis retired in December 2016 from the Bi-Lo Pharmacy in Greenwood. Prior to retirement, he enjoyed his part-time work in the pharmacy at Abbeville Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Greenwood First Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a son, Jason Corley and wife Katie Davenport and a daughter, Elizabeth Corley Davenport all of Greenwood; two brothers, O. Harold and wife Susan Davenport of Greenwood and Ricky Wayne and wife Marcelle Davenport of Graniteville; a grandson, Jack Corley Davenport of Greenwood.

Services will be conducted at 5PM Thursday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Blake Kendrick, Rev. Dr. J. William Harris and Rev. Dr. Charles E. Moates officiating.

Honorary escort will be members of the Bowers Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church along with Jim Dominick, Jerry Timmons, Chuck Moates, George Cone, Bubba Fennell, Richard Jackson, Alan Counts, Billy Hudgens and Jim Coleman.

Family inurnment will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum at a later date.

The family is at the home and will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 to 5 Thursday afternoon.
