Dewey Trammell

Dewey Blackwell Trammell, 90, husband of Marion Hopkins Trammell, resident of Plum Branch, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Parksville, South Carolina, February 3, 1927, he was the son of the late Dewey Watson and Ruby Blackwell Trammell. He was a 1945 graduate of Washington School. Upon completing his education, he entered the US Navy and was a World War II Veteran. Following his military service, he was employed with the Milliken & Company, McCormick Plant, as a department manager where he retired. He then became employed with the McCormick Country Club as the Superintendent for many years until he retired a second time at the age of 80.

Dewey was a member of Plum Branch Baptist Church where he served on the finance committee and was an assistant with the youth group. He was also active in the community where he served on the McCormick County Tax Assessors and Department of Social Services Boards. He was an avid golfer and loved growing tomatoes, which he would share with all of his friends and family. While he enjoyed many things in life, his greatest joy was the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his loving wife of 67 years are, two daughters, Sandra Merritt of Spartanburg and Gaye (Tony) McKee of Troy; a son, Jerry (Julie) Trammell of Plum Branch; seven grandchildren, Adam (Andrea) McKee, Amy (Adam) McCoy, Jonathan (Jeanne) DeColaines, Jeremy Trammell, Charley Ann (Kevin) Ashley, Ty Shealy and Amanda (Mark) Mooney; ten great-grand children, Maggie, Emma and Jack McKee, Toni and Madeline McCoy, Caroline Seigler, Jasper Ashley, Macy, Katie and Kyler Mooney and a sister Dr. Sara (Linwood) Hollingsworth of Greenwood.

He was predeceased by an infant son, Michael Frank Trammell and a sister, Willie Jo Ridlehoover.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the McCormick First Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Allen officiating. Burial will follow at the McCormick City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

The family will be at the home 1393 Hwy 283, Plum Branch and will receive friends at McCormick First Baptist Church, Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Shriners Hospital for Children of Greenville, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
