Obituary for Gordon Chandler Bryant, Jr.

Gordon Chandler Bryant, Jr., 86 resident of 215 Lanham Street, husband of Peggy Harrison Bryant, died Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Wesley Commons HealthCare Center.

Born in Greenwood South Carolina, January 14, 1931, he was the son of the late Gordon Chandler Bryant, Sr. and Carrie Seymour Bryant. After completing his education, Mr. Bryant was employed with Self Regional Healthcare as a maintenance engineer where retired after more than 40 years of service. Mr. Bryant cherished spending time with his family who he loved dearly.

Mr. Bryant was a Korean War Veteran, having served 3 years in the US Marine Corp, 1st Shore Party Battalion of the 1st Marine Division. He also served in the National Guard, 218th Infantry Division.

Mr. Bryant was a member of Jordan Memorial Baptist Church where he was very active for many years and served the church as Deacon. He was a member of the Marine Corp League and cherished the friendships with his fellow Marines.

Surviving in addition to his loving wife of 59 years are, two sons, Eric (Wanda) Bryant of Hodges and Johnny (Karen Houghton) Bryant of Myrtle Beach; three grandchildren, Abby (Robert) Scott of Greenwood, Rebecca (Addison) Ridgeway of Old Fort, NC and Jonathan Bryant of Scottsdale, AZ; one great-grandson Nathan Scott of Greenwood; four sisters-in-law, Mary Hall of Hodges, Luween Harrison of Greenwood, Hazel Bryant of Raleigh, NC and Nancy Harrison of Greenwood and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Bryant was predeceased by a brother, Gene Bryant and a sister, Otelia Harrison.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday at 2:00 PM from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Andy Bowers officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with military honors.

The family is at the home of his son, Eric at 1215 Mundy Road, Hodges and will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 5:00 to 6:30 PM.

Pallbearers will be Addison Ridgeway, Robert Scott, Mark Davis, Bill Sherrer, Mark Blackwell and Kyle Harrison.

The family would like to thank the staff of Wesley Commons for the kind and compassionate care shown to Mr. Bryant and the family during his stay there.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials are made to Jordan Memorial Baptist Church at PO Box 1267, Greenwood, SC 29648.
