Obituary for Joe Malcolm Hazel

JOE HAZEL

Joe Malcolm Hazel, 66, resident of 121 Anderson Dr., husband of Johnette Jenkins Hazel, died Saturday, October 21, 2017 at his home.

Born in Greenwood, April 17, 1951, he was the son of the late Joe Daniel and Allie Mae Blum Hazel. Joe was a graduate of Piedmont Technical College and retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation as an Assistant Maintenance Engineer after 38 years of employment.

A member and former Deacon of Harris Baptist Church, he was also a member of the Co-Ed 3 Sunday School Class, past Director of the Children’s Sunday School Department, served on several Building Committees of the church and was a member of the Joppa Masonic Lodge #91. Joe and was an avid hunter and fisherman and most importantly loved and cherished his children and grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are two children, Kelly Rexrode of the home and Jody and wife Leigh Hazel of Greenwood; a brother, Danny Hazel of Greenwood; a sister, Joyce and husband Alan Todd of Greenwood and four grandchildren, Savannah Rexrode, Perrin Hazel, Thomas Hazel and Reese Hazel, all of Greenwood.

Mr. Hazel was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Harrison.

Memorial services will be conducted at 3 PM Monday from Harris Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Thomas officiating.

Honorary escort will be Bobby Woods, Dee Garner, Darrell Porterfield, Ricky Coursey, Danny Hazel, Jr. Tim Thomas and Bobby McGraw.

The family is at the home on Anderson Dr. and will receive friends in the church social hall from 1 to 3 Monday.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Harris Baptist Church Building Fund, 300 Center St., Greenwood, SC 29649.
