Hamp Warner

John Hampton “Hamp” Warner, Jr., 67, resident of Parkwood Road, husband of Jill Herin Warner, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at his home.

Born in Greenwood June 28, 1950, he was a son of the late John Hampton, Sr., and Dr. Ann Bowen Warner. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and Clemson University, Class of 1972. He also received his Master’s Degree in Micro-Biology from Clemson in 1974. Hamp retired from Capsugel as Director of Quality after 40 years of service.

He was an avid international Big Game hunter with many record trophies including the “Big 5” and “Dangerous 7”. He worked with Wheeling Sportsman to take physically handicapped individuals hunting annually; served as the president of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Neil Cost Chapter; was an active board member of the Quality Deer Management Association and served on the Upper Savannah Land Trust Board. Hamp was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities. Hamp served as the President of the Men’s Club, an usher, greeter and was a member of the Drake Sunday School Class. He served on the United Methodist Men Church Council board of trustees and the Staff Parrish Relations Committee.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home is a daughter, Herin Elizabeth Warner of the University of Florida; two sons, Hampton Pierce Warner of the home and John Hampton Warner, III of Columbia; a brother, Dr. William “Bill” Warner and wife Kristie of Greenwood; mother-in-law, Joan Cannon Herin of Greenwood.

Funeral services will be conducted 2PM Sunday, October 1st at Main Street United Methodist Church with Rev. James McCoy-Bruce and Mr. James Terry officiating. Burial will follow in Oakbrook Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Jim Terry, George Coleman, Jimmy Sanders, John Bracknell, Jerry Rentz and Fred Cooley.

Honorary escort will be Howard Boughtnight, Dr. Claudio Guareschi, Josephine Abney, Dennis Waters, Walter Martin, Johnny Moore, Dr. Jeff Lanford, Brad Thompson, Steve Mann, Valerie Rodgers and Ronald Rhodes.

The family is at the home in Gatewood and will receive friends Saturday, September 30th from 4 until 6PM at Blyth Funeral Home.
