Obituary for Lois Parkman Smith McVey

Lois Parkman Smith McVey, 88, resident of Timothy Lane, passed away November 19, 2017 at her home.

Born May 29, 1929, in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Luther Curtis and Frances Jeanette Schaffer Parkman. She attended Greenwood Schools and graduated Greenwood High School and retired from Professional Medical Products.

A member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church and the Adult Sunday School Class of which she served as a former substitute teacher, she also served on several committees. She also loved quilting and was a former member of the Needlers Quilt Club and a member of the Birthday Club of 12 members and loved to travel. Mrs. McVey was a member of the Mary Pinckney Ouzts Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star which she joined in Clinton in 1975.

Surviving are her brother, William Ira "Bo" and wife Gloria Parkman and her sister, Ila and husband Gene Burgess, all of the Kirksey Community, along with many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Richard McVey, to whom she was married for seven years and her first husband, Will Irby Smith, to whom she was married for fifty three years; two sisters, Elizabeth Whatley and Margie Wash; and two brothers, Marvin Luther Parkman and Howard Irvin Parkman.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Huffman and Rev. Albert Hinson, III, officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Robbie Parkman, Mark Parkman, Douglas Dilleshaw, Hilton Dodgen, Chuck Wells and John Wash.

Honorary escort will be Warren Johnson, Mike Byerly, Larry Wash, Glenn Hubbard, Greg Inscore, Burt Wetzel and Steve Welch.

The family is at the home on Timothy Lane and will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 Friday afternoon.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, Hospice House, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646, or to the charity of one’s choice.
