Obituary for Lucille Gilliam Armstrong

Lucille Gilliam Armstrong, 99, widow of James Hall Armstrong, resident of Cambridge Ave., passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus Monday, March 5, 2018 at NHC Healthcare Greenwood.
Born December 19, 1918 in Golden CO to the late Julian Bert and Lucy Hull Gilliam, she was a 1937 graduate of South High School in Cleveland OH. She retired in 1984 from the Barnes Group of Associated Spring in Corry PA after 32 years of service. She was a resident of Ashley Place from 2008 until 2015, where she actively participated in the morning devotion and Bible study. She then went to NHC Healthcare Greenwood until her passing.
Lucille was a charter member of the Corry PA Numismatic Club. She was a former member of First Baptist Church Centerville PA, First Methodist Church Corry PA, Christ United Methodist Church Erie PA, Gulf View United Methodist Church Panama City Beach FL, Coronaca Baptist Church Coronaca SC, Westminster Presbyterian Church Greenwood SC, and was a current founding member of Rock Presbyterian Church ECO Greenwood, SC where she was an active member of the Seekers Sunday School class, she also crochets with the Rock Hook and Needles ministry for those less fortunate. Her past ministries included sending cards to those on the prayer list and to shut-in’s.
Lucille, known as “Miss Lu” will be remembered by many as a woman of great faith whom loved abundantly. She was an avid reader and enjoyed card games, Dominoes, and Scrabble.
Surviving are her daughters, Judith Morrow Ross of Bethel Park PA, and Toni Armstrong Sample of Greenwood SC; her grandsons, Mark and wife Jean Morrow of Edinboro PA, and James Robert Armstrong of England; her granddaughters, Beth Duncan of Mt Lebanon PA, Nicole Armstrong of Nashville, TN, and Joann Armstrong of England; her great grandsons, Joseph, Peter, and Ben Armstrong all of England; her great granddaughters, Faith Morrow of Edinboro PA, and Ricque and husband Harvey Greer of Tampa FL; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, her son, James Richard Armstrong; her sons-in-law, Ross Morrow, William Perry, Robert Ross, and David Sample; her grandson, Randy Duncan; 2 sisters and 5 brothers.
Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, March 10th, at 11:00 AM from Rock Presbyterian Church, ECO, with Rev. Dr. Chris Leopard and Rev. Debby Plumstead Marshall officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in SunnySide Cemetery in Centerville PA.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
The family respectively requests flowers be omitted and memorials in Lucille’s memory be made to Rock Presbyterian Church, ECO, 122 Rock Church Road NW, Greenwood, SC 29649.
