Obituary for Manuel Ellis Timms

Manuel Ellis Timms, 87, resident of 804 Truett Avenue, widower of Emma Lou Smith Timms, passed away Monday, October 9, 2017, at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born January 9, 1930, in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late W.A., Sr. and Ruby Bell Furguson Timms. He was a demolitions expert in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from the Composing Room and Maintenance of the Index Journal in 1995, after more than 32 years of service.

Mr. Timms attended South Greenwood Assembly of God Church and was formerly a member of Mathews United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. He also volunteered for many years at the Epworth Camp and was instrumental in getting the restoration of Cokesbury College started. He was a life member of Mathews Masonic Lodge #358, A.F.M.

Surviving are two sons, Keith Timms and Doyle and wife Brenda Luker Timms, all of Greenwood; a grandson, Bryan Timms of Greenwood; four brothers, Wilburn A., Jr and wife Doris Timms of Abbeville, Carroll Timms of Woodruff, Mickey Timms of Charleston and Ricky Timms of Iva; a sister, Adair and husband Preston Upton of Greenwood; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Donna Timms Clamp and a brother, Ervin Timms.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Thursday at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carroll Harrison and Rev. Robbie Brissey officiating. Private burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home on Truett Avenue and will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 Thursday morning.
