Obituary for Mary Edna Gardner

The angels swept up Mary Edna Connelly Gardner from Hospice House of the Piedmont on April 13, 2018 to be reunited in her heavenly home with her husband of 72 years, O. Lawton Gardner. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Born in Greenwood County, May 19, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Lydia Rampey and William Pierce Connelly. Mrs. Gardner was a graduate of Greenwood High School. She retired after working as a secretary at Abney Mills and Nantex. She was a member of Ninety Six First Baptist Church and the TEL Sunday School class.

Known as Ma Ma by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she cherished time with family on the farm, Sundays at the lake and taking trips together. Mrs. Gardner enjoyed pulling for the Clemson Tigers having spent many years as an IPTAY member.

Surviving are her two children, Cathy Patterson and husband George of McCormick and Bill Gardner and wife Lisa of Ninety Six along with six grandchildren – Brian Patterson (Diana Johnson), Amy (Heyward) Hilliard, Anna (Chad) Morgan, Jamie (Rob) Christuski, Emily (Ashley) Miller, Mandy (Ben) Bussey and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be Monday, April 16 at 3:00 PM at Ninety Six First Baptist Church with Reverend Chuck Sprouse officiating. Burial will be at Rehoboth United Methodist Church Cemetery on the Callison Highway.

The family will receive friends at the Gardner home in Ninety Six. Visitation will be prior to the service Monday from 2-3 PM at Ninety Six First Baptist Church with the service following at 3:00 PM.

Pallbearers will be Brian Patterson, Tyler Gardner, Heyward Hilliard, Chad Morgan, Ashley Miller, Lawton Hilliard, and Ben Bussey.
