Obituary for Maurice Corley

Lawrence Maurice Corley, 92, former resident of Merriman Avenue, husband of Betty Riddle Corley, passed away January 12, 2018, at Carolina Gardens in Laurens.

Born December 2, 1925, in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Abner Vinson and Nona Murrah Corley. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and was a US Army Veteran of World War II. He was retired from the Durst Plant of Greenwood Mills.

A member of Lowell Street United Methodist Church, he was also a past Trustee and a member of the Men’s Bible Class of the church.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 68 years are two sons, Steven M. and wife Debbie Corley of Catawba, SC, and Vince and his wife Phyllis Corley of Laurens; a granddaughter, Morgan and husband Chris Rhodes of Laurens; two great grandsons, Heath Bragg and Wells Rhodes.

Graveside services with Military Rites will be conducted 2:00 pm Sunday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with Rev. Cheryl Remchuk and Rev. Dick Waldrep officiating.

Honorary escort will be his nephews, Bob Corley, Jimmy May, Howard Vaughn and Jimmy Corley.

The family is at the home of Vince and Phyllis Corley, 2310 Easy Road in Laurens and will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the service.

Memorials may be made to Lowell Street United Methodist Church, 300 Lowell Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646.
