Obituary for Nell Eddy Lamar

Nell Eddy Lamar, 91, widow of Temple McLain, resident of Ninety Six, SC died peacefully on Tuesday, November 14, 2017.

Nell was born in Greenwood, SC to the late Fannie Towles Eddy Templeton and Joseph Hunter Eddy. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Temple Lamar, a sister, Francis Gaddis, a brother, Ralph (Cotton) Eddy, her half brothers Andrew, Davis, Allen, Joe, and Frank Eddy, and half sister Louise Eddy Battle, and her granddaughter, Caroline Amanda Sherrill.

She is survived by three children , Rossie Corwon (Mike) of Greenwood, Mary Sherrill (Kirk) of Davidson, NC, Robert Lamar of Burlington, NC, and special daughter-in-law, Carol Lamar of Leasburg, NC; one sister, Susan Holley of Ninety Six; one brother, Harold Eddy (Joyce) of Pawleys Island. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Mike and Jeff Corwon, and Sarah and Kate Lamar. She also had seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, one whom she wanted to recognize as her own, John Ivester.

Nell graduated Ninety Six High School in 1943, where she was voted Senior Class Beauty, as she often reminded us in her later years. Shortly after graduating, she began working at Ninety Six Commission of Public Works as an accounting clerk. She retired as a Senior Accounting Specialist from Duke Energy in 1988. Nell was a faithful member of St Paul United Methodist Church where she served as the church treasurer, sang in the choir for 50 years, was a faithful member of the Wesleyan Sunday School class-reading the scripture every Sunday.

Nell loved the Lord and she loved her family and served both selflessly. She warmly welcomed visitors, friends, and family into her home, especially to the kitchen table. Nell loved children and forever remained a child at heart; she loved playing and winning at checkers with the neighborhood children. She had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor which she shared to the end.

The service will be held on Friday, November 17th at St Paul United Methodist Church at 12 noon. Visitation will preceed the service, from 11 to 12 noon, in the Church Parlor. A graveside service will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Nelson Eddy, Hunter Eddy, Scott Eddy, Kent Eddy, Steve Eddy, John Ivester, Rick Lamar, and Paul Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers are Bobby Stoudemire, Bobby Wells, Fritz Geyer, David Henderson, and Gene Adams.
