Obituary for Nora Rodgers Autrey

Nora Rodgers Autrey, 97, widow of Andrew Autrey, Jr., passed away at her home July 31, 2018.
Born in Callison on June 13, 1921, she was the only child of the late Calvin Thomas and Ella Rush Rodgers.
Mrs. Autrey was a graduate of Greenwood High School and was employed by Greenwood Mills for a number of years. In her late 30s, she returned to school and graduated from Greenwood College of Commerce and subsequently worked as clerk for the U.S. Forest Service, Long Cane District of the Sumter National Forest, and retired after 25 years of service.
An important part of her life was her involvement in the activities of Bold Spring Baptist Church, where she was a member for more than 80 years. She served as church clerk and taught the Ladies Sunday School Class for many years; she sang in the choir and participated in numerous other activities as long as her health permitted. She loved to read and to travel. Earlier in her life, she was active in Home Demonstration Club and the Grange, as well as other community organizations. She was a proud descendant of David Rush and Gazaway Rodgers, both 18th –century settlers of the Callison Community.
Mrs. Autrey is survived by two daughters, Norma Autrey of Callison, Andrea (Charles) Long of Clinton; two grandsons, David Long of Lynchburg, VA., and Patrick Long (Laura) of Bristol, TN.; three great-grandchildren, Christian (Jennifer) Long, Collin (Lakin) Long, and Carley Long, and a great-great-grand daughter, Lyla Paige Long, all of Prosperity.
Funeral services will be at Bold Spring Baptist Church Monday at 2 P.M with the Reverend Chuck Keller officiating. Burial will follow in Bold Spring Cemetery, in a plot that adjoins the property on which she was born. Visitation will follow in the Legacy Center at the church.
Pallbearers will be Christian Long, Collin Long, Jeff Setzer, Roland Temple, Ronnie Long and Heyward Kidd. Honorary escort will be the Ladies Bible Class, the Men’s Bible Class of Bold Spring, and Bill and Margaret Dorn, Larry and Verma Cope, Tony and Marcia Balchin, Sharon Setzer, Sarah Adele Monson and Joyce Foster.
Memorials may be made to the cemetery fund of Bold Spring Church, 2806 Callison Rd., Troy, S.C. 29848.
