Obituary for Rose Greene Fagan

Rose Greene Fagan, wife of Joseph Clifford Fagan, passed away on February 19, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 26, 1930 in Henderson N.C. to the late Clarence Edward Greene and Virginia Cheatham Barnes Greene.

She attended schools in Henderson, N.C. and Wake Forest University. She married Joseph Clifford Fagan, Jr. in 1950 and was married for 67 years. They lived in Greenville, S.C., Greenwood, S.C., Columbia, S.C. and Lexington S.C.

Rose loved her experience in high school and college as a member of the marching band and the orchestra as a talented French horn player. She has been a member of First Baptist Church (FBC) of Greenwood, S.C. since 1960. She worked with FBC youth programs and served on numerous church committees. One of her favorite summer activities was serving as an adult camp leader for FBC youth on their various camp retreats to Black Mountain, N.C. Rose was a past member of the Palladium Study Club and the Azalea Garden Club. She served in a leadership role for the Girl Scouts of South Carolina. Rose had a talent for sewing and created costumes for the Greenwood Community Theater and Workshop Theater in Columbia, S.C. One of her favorite places to visit and relax was in the mountains of Highlands N.C. She had a passion for cooking and could recite from memory over 2,000 recipes, most of which she created herself. She never passed up a competitive game of Scrabble or Chinese checkers, soundly beating her opponents. Playing Forty Thieves on her computer was a daily ritual. She also loved challenging jigsaw puzzles, especially the ones where all the pieces were the same shape and color. Her love of God, shoes, and travel were surprisingly reflected on her inspirational calendar on the day of her death: “Put on comfortable shoes and head in the direction of your dreams – God has prepared the path ahead of you.”

Surviving are two daughters, Dr. Ellen C. Fagan (Joan E. Pedersen) of Gaithersburg, MD, and Lauren Fagan Borders (Charles G.), two grandsons, Daniel James Hilyer and Christopher Joseph Williams all of Lexington, S.C. She is predeceased by her husband and a sister, Virginia Elam Greene Secrest.

A private burial will be held in Edgewood Cemetery, Greenwood, S.C. The family is at the home of her daughter, Lauren Borders at 168 Hickory Meadow Road, Lexington S.C. 29072. As per Rose’s wishes, the family will worship together and celebrate her life at a regular Sunday worship service at First Baptist Church in Greenwood, S.C. in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 722 Grace Street, Greenwood, S.C. 29649.
