W. Mel Riley

Wilburn Melvin Riley, 85, husband of Mary Ann Winn Riley, resident of Cobb Rd., died Friday, December 29, 2017 at Emerald Gardens.

Born December 16, 1932 in Greenwood County to the late Yancy and Pearl Wilson Riley, he was a 1951 graduate of Greenwood High School and a 1955 graduate of Lander College. Mel served in the Army and the Army Reserves, he was formerly employed in Radio Broadcasting in Bishopville, SC, Union, SC, and at WGSW in Greenwood for over 30 years. He retired from Rainbo Neon Sign Company and later owned and operated Mel Riley Productions that provided music for dances and special events.

He was a member of and former President of the Tarantella Dance Club, a former member of the Board of Visitors of the Boys Home of the South, and a founding member of St. Mark United Methodist Church.

Surviving other than his loving wife of over 55 years, are his son, Jay Carroll Riley and wife Margaret of Lexington, SC. He was predeceased by his brother Marion Riley, and his sisters, Helen Davis and Beatrice Riley.

Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, January 3rd at 3:00 PM from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steven Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Oakbrook Memorial Park with Military Honors.

The family is at their home in Lexington and will receive friends from 2 until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Flowers are accepted, however, memorials may be made in Mel’s memory to the Greenwood Cancer Fund, P.O. Box 612 Greenwood, SC 29648.
