Obituary for William "Bill" Simeon Cogburn Sr


William “Bill” Simeon Cogburn, Sr., 74, resident of Polly St., passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2018 after a long fight with cancer, at HospiceCare of the Piedmont Hospice House with his children by his side.
Born in Greenwood October 27, 1943 to the late William S. Cogburn and Edith Cobb Cogburn Ficklin, he graduated from Carlisle Military School in 1964 and joined the US Army where he served 3 years including a year in Vietnam. Upon returning home from the Army he attended Lander College and was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor’s of Science. His career started at Milliken and then took him as far as North Dakota and Texas eventually retiring from Belton Industries.
He was a member of Honea Path Presbyterian Church, Greenwood Motorcycle Club, as well as the Gold Wing Road Riders Association.
Surviving are his son, William S. Cogburn, Jr. and wife Dana of Greenwood; his daughter, Royanne Cogburn of Clarksville, TN; two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 12:00 PM from Greenwood Memorial Gardens with Rev. Dr. Douglass Key officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be members of the Greenwood Motorcycle Club. Honorary escort will be the Greenwood Motorcycle Club and the Patriot Guard.
