George Robert “Bob” Sargent, 74, resident of 407 N. Church Street, husband of Julia Taylor “Judy” Sargent, died September 28, 2010 at Hospice House in Greenwood.

Born in Anderson County, May 6, 1936, he was a son of the late William Truman and Maude Darnell Sargent. Mr. Sargent was a member of the first graduating class of Palmetto High School in Williamston, attended Lander College and was a US Air Force Veteran. He retired from Solutia after 33 years of service.

Mr. Sargent was a member of Siloam Baptist Church and the American Legion Post #103. He was a former member of the Ninety Six Town Council, the Ninety Six Development Association and the Ninety Six Jaycee(TM)s.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are three sons, Bobby Sargent and wife Lynn, Jeff Sargent and wife Jennifer and Roger Sargent and wife Stacy, all of Ninety Six; grandchildren, Kristen Hopkins and husband Jeffrey, Deanna Sargent, Austin Sargent, Taylor Hammett, Lacie Hammett, Jeremiah Sargent, Rebekah Grace Sargent, Cooper Sargent and Ella Southerland; one brother, William T. “Bill” Sargent of Greenwood and one sister, Gloria Caldwell of Williamston.

Mr. Sargent was predeceased by a grandson, Taylor Sargent and a brother, Ronnie Sargent.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday at Oakbrook Memorial Park with Rev. Greg Martin and Rev. Jason Webb officiating.

The family is at the home on N. Church Street.
