Bobby Carol Hughes, 73, resident of 124 Hughes Road, husband of Mildred McNair Hughes, died August 27, 2011 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born February 9, 1938, in Greenwood, he was a son of the late George Henry "Josh" Hughes and Cleo Bartley Hughes Strawhorn. Mr. Hughes was a graduate of Greenwood High School and previously worked for Davis Buick-Oldsmobile. He was retired from North Sea Oil and Chemical.
He was a member and former deacon and chairman of the building committee of Beulah Baptist Church in Abbeville County. He was also a member of the Men's Sunday School Class of the church.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are his step-father, Calvin Thomas Strawhorn of Greenwood; three daughters, Donna Elizabeth Hughes of Ware Shoals, Robbie H. Fisher and husband Bob of Hodges, and Karen Hughes Polattie and husband, Dwight of Greenwood; four granddaughters, Courtney Michelle Fisher, Ashley Nicole Polattie, Bethany Michaela Fisher and Megan Elizabeth Polattie.
He was predeceased by a son, George Michael Hughes and a granddaughter, Adalyn Grace Polattie.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Monday at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Cobb and Rev. David Garrick officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be James Hughes, Wayne Hughes, Ron Hughes, Jay Pruitt, Chris Clegg, Dwayne Simmons, Joe McGinnis and Thomas Mitchell.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 to 4 Monday afternoon before the service and will be at the home of Karen and Dwight Polattie, 116 Hughes Road, at all other times.
