Elvira McGill Pickens, 90, died February 1, 2009 at Blue Ridge Healthcare Center, 3830 Blue Ridge Rd, Raleigh, NC.
Mrs. Pickens was born in Anderson, SC, November 19, 1918 to Robert Oscar McGill and Leila Bryant McGill. She graduated from Anderson Girls High School. Upon graduating from cosmetology school, she worked for the Beauty Lounge in Greenwood, SC, eventually becoming an owner and then retired at age 65.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Sylvester Vernon Pickens who died at age 90 on February 7, 2002.
Mrs. Pickens is survived by their son, Samuel Sylvester Pickens and his wife, Kathy Lynn Morris of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Dina Michelle Pickens and her husband, Charles Smith, III of Raleigh; Allison McGill Spencer and her husband, Shawn Spencer of Boone; and Samuel Bradley Pickens of Youngsville; three great grandchildren, Emma Cathryn Maddox; Tanner Addington Spencer; and Campbell Tate Spencer.
The family will receive friends 6:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Blyth Funeral Home, Hwy 25, Greenwood, SC. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 5th at Tranquil United Methodist Church, 1702 McCormick Highway, Greenwood S.C. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The pallbearers for the service will be David Parnell, Tim Parnell, Charles Smith, III, Shawn Spencer, and Bradley Pickens.
The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.
