Joel Emory Wallace, 83, resident of 136 Kingston Road, husband of Mary Genelle Hudmon Wallace, passed away December 21, 2016, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born August 14, 1933, in Gray Court, SC, he was a son of the late Carroll and Eddie Lou Weathersbee Wallace. He was a US Army Veteran and attended Berry College and Southern Technical College in Georgia. Mr. Wallace retired from the National Security Agency where he received a commendation from President Gerald Ford in 1974 for his part in the creation of electronic communication devices used in the NSA.
He was a member of South Main Street Baptist Church and the Jones Bell Sunday School Class and was formerly a member of Grace Baptist Church in Bowie, MD, where he was instrumental in the building of the church and various ministries of the church including the bus ministry.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 60 years are a son, Joel Yancey Wallace and wife Kim Wallace of Piedmont; a daughter, Carol Dianne Schneider of Greenwood; and a brother, Curtis Elliott Wallace of Clinton.
Memorial services will be conducted at a later date.
Inurnment of cremains will be in the Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurens at a later date.
