Richard L. Dombrowski, 78, passed away on February 8, 2017 at Augusta University Health in Augusta, Ga. after a brief illness. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of Leo C. and Evelyn Umlor Dombrowski. A long-time resident of Dearborn, Michigan, he graduated from Dearborn schools and attended Eastern Michigan University where he pursued a Fine Arts degree. He was employed by Ford Motor Company for 34 years and was an enthusiastic supporter of all things Ford.
Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Elizabeth (Bet), son Richard L. Dombrowski II (Lori), stepchildren Elizabeth Fiske (James) and Steven Sullivan (Robin), brother David Dombrowski (Pati), grandchildren Erica Dombrowski, Kate Massey (Sean), Benjamin Fiske, Allison Shvonski (Alex) and Sarah Sullivan, great grandchildren Nell, Jack, Maeve and Annalise, beloved nieces and nephews and a host of dear friends. He was predeceased by son Randall, grandson Kevin and sisters Roberta and Dorothy.
In 1995 Rich and Bet moved to Savannah Lakes Village where he soon became involved in many community activities and organizations. He was a member of the McCormick United Methodist Church and the Lions Club International and active with Meals on Wheels, the McCormick Backpack Committee, Road Warriors and a member of the MSG9 Golf Group. He previously served on the Piedmont Technical College Foundation Board. Rich's greatest joy was the McCormick Children's Home which he was instrumental in founding in 1998. He was also involved with the establishment of a free eye clinic sponsored by the McCormick Lions Club and the Greenwood Eye Clinic which has served the residents of McCormick County for many years.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the McCormick United Methodist Church. Contributions in memory of Rich may be made to the McCormick Children's Home, 146 Tombs Road, McCormick SC 29835.
